“Bua Cement” launches the “Solar Farm” project
Envisioning a green society, “Bua Cement” launches the “Solar Farm” project, the first solar power plant with a production capacity of 20 megawatts, in Phukrang Subdistrict, Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12,000 tons per year equivalent to planting 1.2 million trees. At the same time, Bua Cement joins hands in driving “Saraburi Sandbox,” a low-carbon pilot city that seeks to improve communities and the quality of life.
On sustainable business operation policy, Mr. Nopadol Ramyarupa, Managing Director of Asia Cement (PCL), said that the company is committed to boosting economic growth with social and environmental responsibility as well as good governance. The company stands ready to collaborate with business partners and every sector to formulate long-term policies and plans on reducing global warming impacts, moving toward “Go Green Society” and Net Zero Emissions in 2050.
Asia Cement Energy Conservation Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Asia Cement (PCL), oversaw the construction of this ground-mounted solar power plant (solar farm) with a production capacity of 20 megawatts, covering an area of 160 rai (256,000 SQM) in Phukrang Subdistrict. Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province. This project was born out of the company’s spirit and commitment to achieving sustainable development, promoting the use of green energy, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and improving the wellbeing of local communities. To mark this commendable initiative, Mr. Bancha Chaowarin, Governor of Saraburi Province, presided over the opening ceremony of the solar farm.
“With the capacity of 20 megawatts which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12,000 tons per year, equivalent to planting 1.2 million trees, this solar farm will be an inexhaustible source of clean and renewable energy. This is our intention to purposefully integrate innovation into our actions, whether to improve the quality of the products and services, to care for society and the environment, and to enhance the quality of life and community as we are moving toward a sustainable green society,” said the Managing Director of Asia Cement (PCL).
Mr. Bancha Chaowarin, Governor of Saraburi Province, said that the solar farm project by Asia Cement (PCL) is part of “Saraburi Sandbox,” a concerted effort of network partners to develop a prototype of a green and low-carbon industrial city that can be reimplemented in other provinces. The crucial success factor of this initiative is public-private collaboration and commitment, including support from local entrepreneurs and communities. The pilot project of “Saraburi Sandbox” is expected to inspire and motivate other industries to strive for the similar sustainability goal.
The construction of this solar farm, which was the first photovoltaic power plant of “Saraburi Sandbox,” began on September 28, 2022 to produce electricity for the factory within the project and was recently completed in May 2023. Asia Cement (PCL), a member of the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), has taken part in developing the supportive ecosystem to push Saraburi as the first model city in Thailand with net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Asia Cement (PCL) has always been firm in its determination to conforming to the green mining approach, good governance, responsibilities toward the society and public health, and the use of innovation and technology to reduce environmental impacts of mining. With its unwavering commitment to making life better and leading the country toward a sustainable low-carbon society, Asia Cement (PCL) has won “Thailand Green & Smart Mining Awards 2023” from the Department of Primary Industries and Mines.
